Biography

Emmanuel Iwuoha is the South African Research Chair for NanoElectrochemistry and Sensor Technology and a Senior (Distinguished) Professor of Chemistry at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), Cape Town, South Africa. He is currently a member of the editorial board of Bioelectrochemistry (the official journal of the Bioelectrochemical Society). All his research work are done under the umbrella of SensorLab founded by him in 2002 at the University of Western Cape. SensorLab is in the forefront of research on Phenotype biosensors for therapeutic monitoring of drug metabolism, which is important for real time profiling of a patient’s drug metabolism classification (e.g. ultra-rapid-, moderate- or slow-metaboliser) at point-of-care, in order to ensure appropriate dosing/prescription to avoid toxicity or ineffective treatment. Also SensorLab is prominent in electrochemical signalling of disease biomarkers, particularly for TB and breast cancer biomarkers.
